The Gymbox Guide to Safer Sweating

While we're still awaiting for the government to give us a re-opening date (anticipated at some point in July), we've been busy prepping behind the scenes to ensure that when we open it's as safe for everyone as possible.

You chose Gymbox to keep you fit and healthy, and we’re not planning on letting you down now. While we’ve been closed, we’ve been working with UK Active and industry medical experts to help prep our clubs for reopening.

Whilst the framework from the government has not yet been agreed, we’re not ones to brag (well, gains aside…) but we’ll go above and beyond what the likely mandated rules will be. We’re going to keep raising the bar on our own high standards of cleanliness, so we can be the best in the industry. Because there’s only one thing more important to us than getting you sweaty – and that’s keeping you safe.

What's Changing?

Access to your club

1. Gym access

We are still awaiting government guidance on social distancing rules and are looking at different measures to ensure your safety. A booking system for gym time as well as classes may be in use. We will update you when we know more depending on the guidance received.

2. Using classes

A booking system will still be in place although we are still awaiting government guidance on social distancing.

3. Temperature checks

We’ll be providing temperature checks on arrival for everyone’s safety. It will take less than 1 second by looking at a screen. If your temperature checks out high, please don’t come in and train. Annoying, yes. But we’ve all got to look out for each other right now.

4. Shield guards

Shield guards have been installed at reception to provide protection for all members, guests and staff.

5. Face coverings

While not mandatory, our staff will be provided with face coverings to keep their workplace and your workout as safe as possible. A limited amount will also be available for members to buy at reception, should you fancy giving your pandemic wardrobe the Gymbox look. FFP grade 2 protection, plus they are comfortable, washable and reusable. They come with air filters and additional filters will be available to buy at reception.

6. Contactless

We’ll be fully cashless to avoid any unnecessary physical contact. We’ll also provide contactless check in – which means that for clubs with no turnstiles, you can simply scan your card at reception without ever needing to hand your card to a member of staff.

1. Cleaning hours

We’ve doubled our cleaning hours to make sure there’s more regular cleaning of changing rooms, gym floor and studios.

2. Deep clean pre-opening

Before every opening, all clubs will have been fogged and given an overnight deep clean to kill off all bacteria.

3. Studio cleaning

Between classes, every studio will be washed down with disinfectant so it’s clean and ready for the next class.

4. Gym equipment

Gym equipment will be cleaned regularly throughout the day and we ask that every member does their bit by wiping down equipment before and after use, with the biodegradable disinfection wipes provided.

Your workout

1. Reduced capacity

There will reduced capacity in the gym and studios at any one time, to make sure we keep a safe space between members. Studio capacity will be reduced by 50% to help stick to official social distancing guidelines.

There will be additional time between classes to minimise congestion and to allow time for our teams to deep clean every studio with disinfectant.

If looking for a quiet time to train during gym time, we suggest you come during off peak hours.

2. Hand sanitisers

There will be numerous hand sanitiser stations throughout the club, and we’ll make sure you can’t miss them. Biodegradable disinfection wipes will also be available for wiping down your equipment, kit and anything else that takes your fancy. In addition, we kindly ask that you wash your hands regularly.

3. Changing room facilities

There will be a reduced number of showers and toilet facilities in use to help with social distancing. To reduce any possibility of spread, towels will not be allowed on the gym floor. We encourage you to come to the gym changed where possible. Lockers will still be in use but please stick to social distancing in the changing room at all times.

4. Sauna use

The saunas will be out of action in the short term while we await further instructions.

5. Cardio areas

Some cardio equipment will be out of action to allow for social distancing. These will be clearly marked.

6. Towels

Towels will still be available from reception but these are only to be used in the changing rooms. They are not to be used on the gym floor or in studios.

7. Respecting social distancing

There will be signage and floor markings across our clubs and studios to help guide everybody on social distancing. We’ll have additional team members on the gym floor too, to help with any questions you may have. We got you.

8. Social seating

We’re a social bunch but for the time being, there’ll be limited seating available in breakout areas to make it easier to stick to social distancing.

9. Personal Training

Personal training will continue to run as normal but with no physical contact to respect social distancing guidance.

We hope you can see how committed we are to keeping our community safe. We’re doing all we can to make you feel comfortable in our clubs. And rest assured, these precautionary measures and proactive approach will continue to evolve as we receive new information. If you are suffering any symptoms, we ask that you don’t train. We can’t wait to get going again. But for now, practice safe sets and get your sweat on!
